The Many Concerns of Nicole is a participant in the Grammarly Affiliate Program. A program designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to grammarly.com.
As a Social Media Specialist, I know the struggles of having a typo in a social media post. Not only does it reflect poorly on you, but your audience can be pretty unforgiving.
Yes, we all make mistakes, but wouldn’t you feel better knowing that there was an extra layer that would protect you from typos and grammatical errors?
Grammar & Spell Check
Grammarly does a thorough grammar and spell check. The program also offers synonyms to help the user with vocabulary enhancement.
These tools are useful if you’re writing a paper, composing an email, sending out a tweet, or fixing your resume.
The online editor offers Microsoft Office integration, which is convenient for writers, students, and personal use.
The app also lets you know when you’ve repeatedly used a word in your text and suggests synonymous for you to use.
Grammarly alerts the user of “passive voice” and encourages writing in the “active voice.”
If you want to know why the app is suggesting something, you can click the “more” option. There are short and long explanations given when a grammatical error is spotted.
You’ll also get examples of incorrect and correct usage of words.
Grammarly not only serves as an online grammar checking service, but it has a tool to check for plagiarism.
I used the following quote from George Orwell’s 1984 to see if the app would spot it and it did!
“Being in a minority, even in a minority of one, did not make you mad. There was truth and there was untruth, and if you clung to the truth even against the whole world, you were not mad.” ― George Orwell,
You get a notice letting you know of “unoriginal text” with the number of words copied.
Grammarly even includes pre-formatted references that you can use in MLA, APA, and Chicago format.
If you’re writing a school paper, this will come in handy!
I had been using the free version of the program for a while, but that didn’t give me full access to all the app has to offer.
I am currently using a free trial of the premium version of Grammarly, and I find that it is convenient, accurate and easy to use.
I would recommend paying for the subscription. I wish I had known about Grammarly in college; it would’ve made my life easier!
What I Don’t Like
Although this is a given, know that Grammarly shouldn’t have the final say when it comes to grammar and spelling correction.
It’s not going to catch everything, so I would encourage that you always to go back and review your material before submitting it.
What I Like
I like that the program provides you with feedback that will explain why x item is incorrect. So while I’m quickly correcting stuff, I’m learning along the way.
The program would be perfect for those who are learning English. But regardless of whether you’re good at spelling and a native English speaker, the program is useful.
When you’re typing fast, you tend to make typographical errors. Grammarly allows you to fix these errors quickly, which is much more efficient than having to go back and correct it yourself.
