5 Reasons Why I Don’t Want Another Season of ‘Gilmore Girls’ Revival

Gilmore Girls Revival

So it turns out that I was right, Amy Sherman-Palladino’s trick to have Rory announce her surprise pregnancy seems to have paved the way for a second Gilmore Girls revival at Netflix.

Fan reactions vary from those who are beyond thrilled to those who wish it weren’t true.

Here are five reasons why I don’t think we need a second Gilmore Girls revival.

1. The Image Of Rory Is Tarnished

Rory’s behavior in A Year in the Life is simply unlikeable.

It made me wonder if she has always been this selfish and I never noticed (besides being Dean’s mistress).

I don’t think I will ever be able to love Rory Gilmore again.

She’s inconsiderate, selfish, and rude. But for some reason, no one calls her out on her bad behavior.

Rory grew up in a great community and even though her mom wasn’t rich, they weren’t poor. Her grandparents were wealthy and paid for her education, but yet she can’t hold a job?

And it’s not like she doesn’t have connections either.

I bet Paris could offer her a job, or one of her grandma’s friends, or her mom! There was even a scene where the dean of Chilton told her that if she got her Masters, he’d give her a job.

Oh, and I don’t even want to dive deep into her affair with Logan or the mistreatment of her boyfriend Paul.

How will a new season of Gilmore Girls revival save Rory’s character?

She’s pregnant with what I’m assuming is Logan’s baby, she’s unemployed and living at home as a 30 something-year-old.

2. It’s No Longer The Same

Think about it, how many of your beloved shows went downhill after season four or five?

I still loved Gilmore Girls up until season 5, but after Amy Sherman-Palladino wasn’t involved in Season 7, I stopped watching. At that point, the show lost its direction and had run its course.

I was excited about the Gilmore Girls revival, but also realized that it wasn’t necessary.

The more a show is milked, the worse it gets.

Look at Pretty Little Liars, Gossip Girl, Modern Family, and The Vampire Diaries.

3. Emily’s And Lorelai’s Storylines Ended

Emily discovered a different life after Richard’s death, and it looked like she was really happy at the end of the revival.

She got a job and was treating her staff like human beings.

Lorelai finally settled down and married Luke and she plans on expanding her inn.

What more do Emily and Lorelai have to contribute to the show?

4. I’m Tired Of The Microaggressions

What I didn’t realize until the Gilmore Girls revival was that there are several not so subtle jabs at minorities throughout the series.

We see it with Emily’s new maid, Berta. As well as with Mr. and Mrs. Kim. The choir Mrs. Kim was chaperoning and Michel.

Why do they all have exaggerated accents?

Why was Berta speaking Spanish mixed with gibberish? And who thought it was funny to add the lines about how no one could figure out what language Berta was speaking?

Also, the choir Mrs. Kim introduces us to in the Gilmore Girls revival was portrayed as if they were North Korean refugees, not South Koreans.

They were depicted as extremely docile, subservient, and scared.

That scene was simply racist.

And did Mrs. Kim really have to be a super religious and strict Asian parent?

Lane doesn’t seem to embrace her Korean heritage, she wants to be like Rory.

I mean there’s nothing wrong with her not following in her mom’s footsteps, but when I look back on the show, it kind of felt like we as viewers were rooting for Lane to be more “Americanized.”

5. I Don’t Want To See Lane’s Life Get Worse

So not only does Lane get pregnant with twins after being intimate for the first time, but she ends up married to Zack?!

Okay, maybe I’m being a bit harsh, and I acknowledge that having kids isn’t the end of the world for some, but they didn’t even try to make Lane’s life a little better.

The girl has never left Stars Hollow and she still rocks out with her lame band. That scene where Rory and Paris go over to Lane’s house is depressing!

Lane can still have an awesome career in a band, a husband, and kids.

Her life seems to have stopped before it even started.

Here’s To Not Wanting Another Gilmore Girls Revival

I realize that I was very passionate in this post, but I can’t help but feel this way, I started watching Gilmore Girls in middle school!

Sometime’s good things should just end. Like Harry Potter.

Are you excited for a new season?
