5 Things That Could Be Making Your Skin Break Out

Making Your Skin Break Out

After several years of living on this earth, I recently started taking my skin care seriously. I’ve dealt with acne since puberty but always figured that once I became an adult, it would miraculously go away. But that was not the case.

Yup, adult acne is totally a thing.

Making Your Skin Break out

After a trip to the dermatologist, I found out that my acne was hormonal. I was put on medication, and my skin was clear for a couple of months, but then I started breaking out again.

It made me realize that not only was my acne hormonal, but many other factors were to blame. I wasn’t eating right, I was under a lot of stress, and I just didn’t take care of my skin properly.

So if you’re in the same boat, here are five things that could be making your skin break out.

1) Your Cell Phone

Think about it, you touch your cell phone several times a day, but how often are you wiping the screen? And if you’re putting that screen on your face, think of all the germs and bacteria making contact with your skin.

2. Your Bedding

Wash your pillowcase and bed sheets at least once a week. You need to wash your bedding more often because of all that dirt and oil being accumulated every time you sleep.

3. Dairy Products

This isn’t 100% guaranteed. In fact, I’m not sure how true this is, but personally, dairy has been a factor in my acne flare-ups.

I have been cutting back on how often I drink milk and eat cheese, and my skin feels glorious (but this could also be because of the antibiotics).

I haven’t gone completely dairy free, so I’m not sure if it makes a difference. I’m aiming to do a month of no dairy products to see if it does affect my skin, but since I love milk and cheese, this is hard for me!

4. Beauty Routine

Make sure that you’re using non-comedogenic makeup products. These are products that won’t clog your pores.

And even though you might want to plop onto your bed and sleep after a long night out, don’t do it!

You don’t want your makeup and all of that oil and dirt to clog your pores. Be sure to wash your face well before you go to bed.

5. Stress

According to WebMD, “scientists don’t know exactly how stress worsens acne. They do know that cells that produce sebum have receptors for stress hormones.”

Personally, this one is sort of hard to control. I noticed that when I was stressed in general and then stressed about my acne, I got more acne.

Life is so hard!

The Road to Clear Skin

Know that whatever you put onto your skin and the food that you eat has an impact. The road to clear skin isn’t easy, and it’s not miraculous, but it’s important to adopt healthy lifestyle habits.

And I would recommend a trip to the dermatologist for those who can go.

What is something that makes you break out? Any skin tips?
