The Museum of Ice Cream (MOIC) finally made its way to Los Angeles after popping up in New York last year. As a person who sometimes suffers from FOMO (fear of missing out) when I see cool Instagram pictures, I was bummed to see that the MOIC was only in NY. So when I heard that they were making their way to LA, I knew I had to get tickets.

It’s Not An Actual Museum

I think they just called it “Museum of Ice Cream” because that sounds better than “Exhibit of Ice Cream” or “Ice Cream Art and Samples.” But in no way is it a museum. I didn’t learn anything at all because there was nothing informational, besides business cards. 

So What Is It?

It’s an immersive experience, with colorfully galleries (10 to be exact) filled with installations of ice cream-themed art and sweets.

The best part was that they served samples throughout select rooms. Unfortunately, they weren’t as generous as Costco, limiting one sample per person. In the mint room, they even served half of a mint filled mochi. HALF!

Samples Received:

-1 Dove Chocolate

-Earl Grey Tea Ice Cream in a small cup

–Half a mint mochi

-A few gummy bears

-Cookie Dough on a mini waffle cone (If kinetic sand were edible, this is what it’d taste like)

-A pink pancake ice cream sandwich (Tasted a bit weird, but it cost $29 to enter so I tried to eat it all)

Instagram Heaven 

The museum has a no walking backward rule, so once you move forward you can’t go back to the room you came from.

They encourage you to take as many pictures and videos as you want, so we took our time walking through each gallery. It did get a bit packed in certain rooms, but the staff did a great job of controlling the crowd.  

Another great thing about visiting the Museum of Ice Cream was that I now have a ton of great pictures to use for social media. They basically designed the place to be Instagrammed.

Everything was colorful and vibrant, from the gallery of bananas hanging from the ceiling to giant popsicles and a pool of sprinkles!

So, Was It Worth It?

My friends and I spent more than an hour inside, which was surprising as the place wasn’t that big. I heard the NY exhibit was much smaller (WHAAATTT?!!).

-You can only spend two minutes in the sprinkle pool

-There should’ve been more samples

Worth It!

At $29 a ticket ($18 for kids), it isn’t cheap, but I had a blast with my friends so to me it was worth it.

I mean, it would’ve been cool if the price had been $25 or $20, but business is business.

Random Things

I don’t know why half of the popsicle gallery was closed off. I saw pictures of people sitting on one of the popsicles, so it was a shame that we only had half of that section to walk through. 

There was also no trampoline in front of the Museum of Ice Cream Hollywood sign. I had seen pictures on Instagram of people jumping on it, but it wasn’t there.

Maybe we had less stuff because we went during the weekend.

Who knows.

Tickets were sold out for May, June, and July but they will be releasing more for August this week! If you’d like to get in on the experience, then snag your tickets online starting this Friday, May 12th at 9 am.  

Tip: Don’t buy tickets at resale price, that is definitely a rip-off.
